Red Lion Bio-Energy and The University of Toledo (UT) have formed a unique partnership to help reduce the university's fuel cost as well as its carbon footprint.

In 2008, the University of Toledo provided the Red Lion Biofuel facility with an on-campus site adjacent to its steam boiler plant. Red Lion connected its syngas output to the boiler system.

The modular facility, which had been moved from Denver, Colorado in February, 2008, occupies a 100 X 100 foot space with the capacity to handle up to 175 tons of feedstock daily. The Red Lion Toledo facility began a demonstration program by May, 2008 using petroleum coke and coal feedstocks.

The partnership with the university also provides Red Lion with access to the UT faculty and various research tools to analyze progress and the results of its runs. Support from the university has been institution-wide, ranging from Trustee and Presidential levels through the College of Engineering and the Chemical Engineering Department to the Facilities and Physical plant Department. In every case, the University has been receptive of Red Lion and highly interested in pursuing mutual paths to success.
