Red Lion Bio-Energy: Immediate Recognition, Portability Proved
Denver, Colorado
Red Lion Bio-Energy, LLC, founded in 2006, established its original plant in Denver,
Colorado. The goal: provide an efficient, economical, eco-friendly alternate bio
fuel from biomass at a modular, portable facility that had a small on-site footprint.
Red Lion had immediate success. In 2006, Red Lion's patented waste to energy thermal
conversion process was recognized by the Renewable Energy Institute International
as the best in class for mid-range gasifiers.
At the same time, Red Lion was working with leadership the University of Toledo
(Toledo, Ohio) to form an operating arrangement to provide Red Lion Biofuel for
the school's natural gas boiler.
The agreement required the move of the plant from Denver to the University of Toledo
campus, which provided an opportunity to prove the viability of the modular, moveable
plant concept. Over a few months in late 2007 and early 2008, the modular facility
was dismantled and moved to Toledo where it was successfully reconstructed at the
University of Toledo's Science and Technology corridor.
By May, 2008, the Red Lion facility in Toledo
was making its first test run. By June it had delivered its first syngas to the
natural gas boiler at the University of Toledo.
